Major Infrastructure Projects | South West Water AMP8 A leading UK Civil Engineering contractor is strengthening its commercial team as part of its long-term work on the South West Water AMP8 framework and is looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor.

Plymouth would be an ideal base for the position, with projects predominantly across Cornwall, around one day per month in Exeter and the flexibility of hybrid working.

You’ll take commercial ownership of a portfolio of utility and civil engineering schemes, working closely with operational teams, clients and senior leadership. Alongside managing project performance, you’ll also play an important role in supporting and developing other members of the commercial team.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll be responsible for the commercial performance of multiple infrastructure projects, ensuring costs and contracts are effectively managed, risks and opportunities are identified early, and projects remain on track against their financial targets.
This is a role with genuine commercial responsibility, giving you the opportunity to influence project performance and provide commercial direction throughout the delivery lifecycle.

What We’re Looking For

You’ll have a strong commercial background within civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure, with the experience and confidence to take ownership of complex projects.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Previous experience at Senior Quantity Surveyor level within civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts and contractual compliance.
  • Experience managing commercial risk across complex projects.
  • Strong capability across CVRs, forecasting and financial reporting.
  • Experience managing project cash flow and final accounts.
  • Confident negotiation skills with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to mentor and develop less experienced commercial professionals.
  • A proactive, commercially focused approach with strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively.

What’s In It For You?

Alongside the opportunity to work on a long-term programme of essential infrastructure projects, you’ll receive a strong overall package including:

  • Salary up to £70,000
  • £8,000 annual car allowance or EV company vehicle
  • Strong company pension
  • Healthcare package
  • 26 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Hybrid working
  • Continued professional development and leadership opportunities.
  • Clear opportunities for longer-term career progression.
  • A key position within the South West Water AMP8 framework.
