Mechanical Engineer

Major Tidal Barrier Project | Bridgwater
£475–£500/day including holiday pay

A long-term opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a major tidal barrier and heavy civil engineering project near Bridgwater, with the overall programme running through to early 2029.

The Role

A key part of this position will be taking strong ownership of the mechanical subcontractor, ensuring their package is properly coordinated, managed and delivered in line with programme, quality and safety requirements.

As Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Managing and driving the mechanical subcontractor on site
  • Monitoring mechanical installation works and programme
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical submissions
  • Coordinating mechanical activities with the wider civil and engineering teams
  • Challenging progress and resolving technical or delivery issues
  • Overseeing quality, inspections, testing and commissioning
  • Ensuring mechanical works meet required H&S and project standards
  • Reporting progress and highlighting risks to the project team

About You

We’re looking for someone with solid mechanical engineering experience and the confidence to manage subcontractor performance and hold the mechanical package to programme.

Relevant backgrounds include tidal barriers, flood defence, water/wastewater treatment, pumping stations or other major infrastructure projects.

You’ll need:

  • Relevant Mechanical Engineering qualification
  • Strong mechanical installation and delivery experience
  • Proven subcontractor management skills
  • Experience within water, heavy engineering or major infrastructure
  • Ability to commute to the Bridgwater area
  • Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK

What’s On Offer?

  • £475–£500 per day including holiday pay
  • Major infrastructure project running through to early 2029
  • Long-term contract opportunity
  • Technically challenging mechanical package with real responsibility

If you’re a Mechanical Engineer who can take ownership of a subcontractor, drive delivery and keep a major mechanical package moving, this could offer excellent long-term continuity.
