Major Heavy Civil Engineering Project | Bridgwater Area

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Sub-Agent to join a major heavy civil engineering project based near Bridgwater.
The initial phase is due to run until October 2026, with strong potential to move onto further sections of the project beyond this stage. This is an excellent long-term opportunity for a contractor looking for continuity and stability on a flagship infrastructure scheme.
This large-scale development spans multiple work packages, offering genuine variety and technical complexity throughout.

The Project

The scheme includes a broad range of heavy civil engineering elements, including:

• Sheet piling works
• Major earthworks
• River diversions and realignments
• Bridges and culverts

This is a challenging and fast-paced environment, ideal for someone who enjoys complex engineering delivery and visible project progress.

The Role

As Sub-Agent, you’ll take responsibility for managing sections of the works, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery in line with programme requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading and coordinating site teams and engineers
• Overseeing daily site operations and progress
• Ensuring quality assurance and compliance with specifications
• Managing health & safety across your section
• Planning and short-term programming of works
• Liaising with subcontractors and stakeholders
• Contributing to site meetings and reporting progress
• Supporting commercial and cost control activities where required

All necessary equipment will be provided by the client.

About You

We’re looking for experienced Sub-Agents or Senior Engineers ready to step up, with a strong heavy civils background. Suitable experience may include:

• Major highways or infrastructure schemes
• Reinforced concrete structures (bridges, viaducts, etc.)
• Water or wastewater treatment projects
• Flood alleviation or river works
• Large-scale earthworks

You’ll also bring:

• Based within one hour of Bridgwater
• Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering
• Proven experience delivering heavy civil engineering schemes
• Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
• Ability to commute to the Bridgwater area
• Full UK driving licence
• Right to live and work in the UK

Rate & Package

• £360 – £380 per day plus holiday pay, depending on experience
• Long-term contract on a major infrastructure project
• All site equipment provided
• Strong opportunity for further project continuity
